My Philosophy

My philosophy is rooted in a holistic approach with an anti-oppressive lens. I found the OD field through a life of multicultural experiences that made me curious about how people interact, how communities coexist, and how we function within our personal ecosystems. We cannot ignore the unjust systems that we are conditioned under and how they influence the ways in which we communicate. By acknowledging and challenging the systems we exist in, we can aim to create new ways of collaborating and creating together. Some guiding philosophies for my work can be found in the theories, writings, and storytelling of Paulo Freire, Mariame Kaba, Kazu Haga, Kurt Lewin, Mia Mingus, Angela Davis, my Kamensa ancestors and many, many others.

My Approach

I believe my role is to act as a guide and support a person’s agency around their choices. This is done through collaborating and creating an environment that is psychologically safe for learners to explore in, with defined purposes and transparent communication of information and experience. Learning is achieved through collaborative efforts, relying on the distribution of power and information, and the contribution of individuals toward a common goal. I believe that the most successful environment for learning is one that creates an experience for the learner.
